Meeting with central study team: CM appeals to provide relief as per central guidelines
CM Basavaraja Bommai appealed to the central team to recommend fair compensation as per central guidelines for rain damage.
Basavaraja Bommai held a meeting with the central study team headed by Ashish Kumar, joint secretary of the home ministry of the central government, which has arrived in the state to study the flood situation caused by continuous heavy rains in Karnataka.
On this occasion, he discussed the damage caused by floods in the state in July, August and this month. Detailed information was provided in the meeting about the damage caused by the flood situation in the state in the month of July and August and the remedial measures taken by the state government. The team was scheduled to visit Chitradurga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, Bidar, Kalaburagi and Yadagiri districts. Along with this, the Chief Minister advised to visit the districts of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada where the most landslides and sea erosion have occurred.
The flood situation of Bengaluru city, neighboring Mandya and Ramnagar districts was also informed to be reviewed. This year a huge number of damage to fishing boats, shop fronts and losses to silk reeling and twisting units at Ramanagara were brought to the notice of the central team. This is the first time such damage has occurred. The livelihood of fishermen is affected. Therefore, the Chief Minister requested that a review be carried out to provide assistance to them from a humanitarian point of view.
The protection of the entire coastal area of the state requires the help of the Centre. The state is 330 km. 350 crores have been spent in many sensitive areas to prevent coastal erosion. Works carried out at cost. However, he said that sea erosion has occurred in new areas and the help of the center is needed to protect the entire coastal area of the state.
In addition, he said that this time floods have occurred in districts like Kalaburgi, Gadag, Bidar, Koppal, which have never seen floods in the north of Karnataka.
